Academic Path and Research Focus
Mustafa Ojeifoh is a doctoral student at Northcentral University. His dissertation, submitted in October 2023, explored how special education teachers view the role of technology in their classrooms. The project carried the title The Perspectives of Special Education Teachers Regarding the Integration of Technology in Special Education Curriculum.
The idea grew from his own classroom experience. He had seen both the promise and the limits of digital tools. Sometimes they opened new ways for students to learn, other times they created new frustrations for teachers. Vygotsky’s constructivist theory gave him a framework, but the real drive came from conversations with teachers. He wanted their voices, not just data points.
For that reason, he chose a phenomenological approach. Instead of looking for broad statistics, he recorded lived experience. Teachers described moments of success when technology worked as intended, as well as the times when it slowed everything down. His study preserved those stories, making them part of the record.
Teaching Roles and Everyday Work
Ojeifoh is also a practitioner. He teaches at the Long Beach Job Corps as a CPP instructor and substitutes for the Long Beach Unified School District. The work is varied, often unpredictable, but it keeps him close to the realities of teaching.
His research showed what many teachers already knew. Technology can help students stay engaged and, in some cases, more independent. At the same time, schools face real barriers — money, infrastructure, and training. Teachers spoke about wanting better support. Ojeifoh took these concerns and shaped them into recommendations that balance ideal outcomes with what schools can actually do.
Some of his proposals are straightforward: stronger funding, better internet connections, professional development focused on real tools, not just policy talk. These are not abstract goals. They are practical measures built from what teachers told him directly.
